Charlton's U18s were condemned to a 4-2 defeat against AFC Bournemouth at Sparrows Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The young Addicks raced into a two-goal lead with Emmanuel Sol-Loza and Ellis McMillan bagging quickfire goals.

Sol-Loza broke the deadlock on 17 minutes, receiving the ball from captain Jacob Safa and driving into the penalty area before slotting into the far corner.

McMillan soon doubled Charlton's advantage, capitalising on a mistake at the back from the visitors. A ball was lofted over the Cherries’ defence and Hayden McGhan failed to clear, with McMillan taking full advantage.

The visitors halved the deficit ahead of the half-time whistle as the ball was cut back to the edge of the box, where it was met by Malcom Dacosta Gonzalez who lifted his strike into the top corner.

Bournemouth levelled the scoring just before the hour-mark as Ryan Carroll netted his first of the afternoon. The Cherries pounced on a loose pass deep inside the Addicks’ half and slipped in to Carroll, who cut in from the flank and let fly with an effort that mirrored Sol-Loza’s earlier in the encounter.

With 17 minutes remaining, the away side took the lead through Carroll again. Malachi Ogunieye’s well-timed tackle 25 yards out saw a turnover in possession and Carroll was eventually played in, coolly converting with a neat finish.

Josh Hamilton-Olise rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute as a free-kick was whipped into the Charlton box. Hamilton-Olise was able to escape his marker and flick on a header towards the back post, where the ball crept in.

Up next for the U18s is a trip to Wheatsheaf Park where they face Brentford on Saturday, November 9th KO 12pm GMT).
