Charlton's U18s were condemned to a 2-1 defeat at Bristol City on Saturday.
Dionte Davis netted from the bench for the young Addicks, levelling the scoring in the first half, before a 65th-minute winner from Marley Thelwell claimed all three points for the Robins.
It was a dramatic start to the encounter in the south west, as the hosts edged in front inside three minutes.
Bristol City’s winger was unleashed down the flank, allowing Rushon Walker-Brown to fire a cross into the danger zone which was met by Harry Hogg who converted with a neat finish.
The young Addicks responded well to the setback, equalising 20 minutes later.
Bradley Tagoe was forced to withdraw through injury, seeing Davis make his way onto the pitch. Within five minutes of his introduction, the wing-back drew Charlton level.
Shia-Lee Burnham pounced on a loose header at the back, feeding the ball into the path of Reuben Reid. Davis provided an overlapping run and took the opportunity to level the scoring with a well-taken strike at an angle.
The home side fired themselves in front once again shortly after the hour mark through Thelwell. A well-worked corner routine saw Thelwell escape his marker at the front post before finding the back of the net with a clever flick-on.
Jason Pearce’s side were given a golden opportunity to draw level once again, as Reid was wiped out in the box deep into the second half. Samuel Washington-Amoah stepped up from 12 yards, but, unfortunately for the young Addicks, he fired wide.
Next up for the U18s is a home fixture against Watford at Sparrows Lane on Saturday (KO 11am GMT).
