Charlton's U18s fell to a narrow defeat at Sparrows Lane on Saturday as two late strikes from Stevenage saw the visitors run out 3-2 victors.

Kayode Peterkin and Ellis McMillan were both on the scoresheet for the young Addicks, but a late turnaround saw the Boro taste triumph in the Professional Development League Cup.

The visitors went ahead inside 16 minutes through Frank Norris, who pounced on a loose ball at the back and poked in from close range to take the lead.

It was a quick turnaround for Jason Pearce’s U18s as they drew level just nine minutes later.

The ball was cleared as far as Phoenix Valentine on the edge of the box and the wing-back swung an inch-perfect cross to the back post, where Peterkin headed home.

The young Addicks came knocking on the door once again just two minutes later and added a second through Ellis McMillan. Peterkin turned provider as he threaded a pass across the box for McMillan, who skilfully took it past the defender and slotted in with ease.

Stevenage pulled level with 18 minutes remaining as Alfie Robinson got on the end of a fast-paced ball across the face of goal.

The visitors soon completed the turnaround following a swift counter-attack that saw Seb Chaudri pump a long ball up to Tanil Salik. The winger drove towards the Charlton box, cut inside and on to his left foot before firing back across goal.

Up next for the U18s is a trip to Suffolk as they face Ipswich Town on Saturday (KO 11am BST).
