Charlton's U18s suffered a 3-1 defeat against Colchester United at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.

Reuben Reid was on the scoresheet for the young Addicks with a late consolation goal in the Professional Development League Cup.

The away side were ahead inside nine minutes in the as Dwayne Campino Do Vale fired in to establish an early lead for the U’s.

Colchester added a second just moments before the interval as the ball was slipped out to the edge of the box for Leo Makatta, who struck a well-placed, first-time effort home.

With 21 minutes left on the clock, the visitors netted a third, capitalising on a loose pass at the heart of the young Addicks’ defence. Owen Moore was quick to react to the pass, intercepting the ball inside the Charlton box and slotting a pass across the face of goal for Kai Martin to convert from close range.

Reid was able to pull one back for the young Addicks in stoppage time as Jason Pearce’s side countered with efficiency. The wideman cut in on his left, dropping two defenders as he drove across the box before eventually rifling his shot into the top corner.
