Charlton 0 Leyton Orient 2

Leyton Orient scored two stoppage-time goals to knock the Addicks out of the Vertu Trophy in the round of 32.

Charlie Kelman and Daniel Agyei netted in the 93rd and 95th minutes respectively as Charlton lost 2-0 at The Valley.

Nathan Jones made nine changes from the team that drew with Lincoln City in the league on Saturday and handed a first start to Jamaican international Kaheim Dixon, as the Addicks began in a 3-5-2 formation.

In an open start to the game the visitors had the better of the chances but were too close to Ashley Maynard-Brewer with their efforts at goal.

The Addicks struck the post in the 14th minute through a wonderful volley on the turn from Matty Godden from a Thierry Small ball into the box.

Shortly afterwards Maynard-Brewer was forced into action, doing well to tip over from Charlie Kelman’s header.

It looked like a change of shape at half-time as the Addicks moved a 4-2-3-1 and Jones’ side had the first big chance of the second half as Leaburn showed his touch, strength and pace to get clear of the Leyton Orient defence, only for the onrushing goalkeeper Zach Hemming to deflect Leaburn’s shot wide of goal.

Small then drove a right-footed shot just over the crossbar from the edge of the area.

At the other end, former Addick Darren Pratley headed just wide then Ethan Galbraith struck the crossbar with a powerful shot from 25 yards.

The game looked set for penalties until a late Leyton Orient break. Agyei fed Kelman attacking on the visitors left and his shot beat Maynard-Brewer, with Small, on the line, unable to keep the ball out of Charlton’s net.

Agyei then added a second when he cut inside from the right and curled the ball into the top corner of the Addicks' goal.

Nathan Jones' side are back in league action at The Valley on Saturday for the visit of Mansfield Town.
