Micah Mbick scored his second hat-trick in as many matches as Charlton’s U18s claimed an emphatic 7-3 victory over Peterborough United on Saturday.
Brook Myers bagged a brace, with Jadon Yamoah and Emmanuel Sol-Loza also on target for Jason Pearce’s side at Sparrows Lane.
However, it was the visitors who raced into an early lead as David Kamara found Joseph Davies, who sent a left-footed effort beyond Jude Sadler.
The young Addicks were level on 13 minutes when Mbick calmly converted his penalty into the bottom-left corner, sending Posh stopper Samuel Nwabuko the other way.
Charlton then took the lead as Yamoah smashed the ball into the roof of the net following excellent work from Alan Mwamba, who stole back possession and shared a one-two with Mbick before feeding the winger.
At the other end, Peterborough’s Kamara capitalised on a loose back pass to restore parity.
Moments later, the young Addicks were awarded another spot-kick. Mbick stepped up and produced the same result, finishing just as coolly past Nwabuko.
Mbick soon turned provider as Myers added Charlton’s fourth before the break, skilfully shifting the ball onto his left foot and firing into the bottom-right corner from just inside the 18-yard box.
The prolific Mbick completed his treble 13 minutes into the second period, sending a stunning, 25-yard free-kick into the top-left corner.
Max Beech pulled a goal back for the visitors, poking home from close range from Tyler Winters’ centre.
Substitute Sol-Loza got in on the scoring act within 14 minutes of his introduction, wrestling the ball off Joseph Taunton, driving into the penalty area and rifling in at the near post.
Myers rounded off the scoring in the final minute of normal time, racing onto Yamoah’s through ball, opening up his body and curling beyond Nwabuko.
The U18s are next in action on Saturday, April 6th, travelling to south Yorkshire to take on Barnsley (KO 11am).
