Micah Mbick was on target from the penalty spot as Charlton U18s began the new season with a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley on Saturday.

Noah Adekoya shot wide early on for the visitors after Addicks stopper Jude Sadler had spilt an Oliver Sweeney free-kick.

Brook Myers then forced Jon Ander Vilar Robinson into a good save, before Charlton were awarded a spot-kick in the 26th minute when Mbick was brought down in the area.

The forward picked himself up to hammer the penalty into the bottom corner and put the young Addicks in front.

In a first half of few chances, Jack Rogers saw a low shot deflected wide for Burnley as Jason Pearce’s side went in ahead at the break.

Myers almost made it 2-0 to Charlton after the restart, doing well to work space for himself but seeing his shot saved in style by Vilar Robinson.

The Burnley keeper was soon called into action once more, pulling off a game-changing save after Ibrahim Fullah broke in behind the Clarets backline.

At other end, Burnley substitute Adam McCoy saw his shot kept out by Sadler before Logan Carlin’s ferocious strike was stopped by the Charlton keeper.

Abbas then hooked wide but wouldn’t make the same mistake a minute later as he charged down an Addicks defender before slotting calmly past Sadler.

The Clarets almost won it late on when Callum West played a pinpoint pass through to Carlin, but his effort shaved the outside of the post.

The young Addicks are next in action on Saturday, August 19th, taking on Wigan Athletic at Christopher Park in the Professional Development League.
