Charlton 0 Mansfield Town 0
Charlton hit the woodwork and probably should have had a penalty in a tight 0-0 draw with Mansfield Town at The Valley.
After an even first half, the Addicks were in the ascendancy in the second half but despite a number of chances were unable to find the final touch in front of goal.
Nathan Jones made three changes from the side that drew at Lincoln last weekend, with Thierry Small, Conor Coventry and Matty Godden starting as Charlton began the game in a 3-5-2 formation.
The Addicks had an early chance to take the lead when Tyreece Campbell did well, drifting in off the right wing and playing in Karoy Anderson. The midfieder’s first touch was good but his second was a little heavy and his shot at goal was blocked behind by the onrushing Mansfield goalkeeper, Christy Pym.
Mansfield had some half-chances and a number of corners but their best chance fell to Lucas Akins who blazed wide from Frazer Blake-Tracy’s cross.
With the last chance of the half, Lloyd Jones headed Conor Coventry’s cross at Pym who gathered comfortably.
Miles Leaburn replaced Matty Godden at half-time and immediately gave the Mansfield defence no-end of problems.
Within three minutes of the second half starting Leaburn appeared to be wrestled to the ground in the penalty area by former Addick Deji Oshilaja but referee Benjamin Speedie remained unmoved.
It was 10 minutes later when Leaburn went through on goal from Tyreece Campbell’s delicate flick. Pym was again out quickly and Leaburn fired his effort wide.
That chance was immediately followed by a header off the crossbar by the 21-year-old striker, who leapt highest to connect with Tyreece Campbell’s in-swinging cross from the left.
Another substitute Luke Berry then fired over, as the Charlton pressure continued.
Despite the second-half control, the Addicks were unable to find a winner, making it back-to-back scoreless draws in the league.
Charlton have a week off now, before the trip to Northampton Town next Saturday.
