Lincoln City 0 Charlton 0
The Addicks battled well and defended bravely to secure an away point in Storm Darragh's incredibly blustery conditions at Lincoln's LNER Stadium.
The 0-0 draw won’t live long in the memory but for Nathan Jones’ side it was the seventh clean sheet of this young season, in part thanks to the returning Lloyd Jones, who alongside fellow centre halves Alex Mitchell and Macaulay Gillesphey gave Lincoln very little.
Nathan Jones made five changes from the Addicks’ midweek game against Crawley Town and his side began the match in a 3-5-2 formation.
As both sides figured out the tricky conditions it took until the 21st minute for the first shot on target. Lincoln’s Jack Moylan chopped inside and forced a low save from Ashley Maynard-Brewer.
The Addicks first sight of goal fell to Tyreece Campbell, operating as a wing back, who received from Greg Docherty but blasted a shot high over the bar.
Moments later Tyreece Campbell got to the byline and pulled back for Karoy Anderson whose shot was blocked.
Docherty’s dangerous cross from the right went all the way across goal and just needed a touch to deflect it goalwards. The Charlton skipper then curled a left-footed shot just wide of goal from a short-corner routine that saw the ball arrive at his feet just outside the area.
The 66th minute saw the introduction of Matty Godden and Miles Leaburn and immediately Leaburn forced a penalty appeal when Lincoln failed to clear a Josh Edwards long throw but referee Paul Howard waved away the Charlton protests.
Leaburn was then involved in another chance, the striker set up Tyreece Campbell down the right wing and his cross into the box was poked just wide by substitute Allan Campbell sliding in.
The second-half conditions meant chances were few and far between, leaving the Addicks with a point on the road.
Nathan Jones’ side are next in action on Tuesday when Leyton Orient visit in the Vertu Trophy.
