Charlton 1 Rotherham United 1

Two second-half strikes from either side saw the spoils shared at The Valley as the Addicks claimed a 1-1 draw against Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.

The first clear-cut chance of the afternoon fell in the Addicks’ favour as Luke Berry brought down an enticing ball in the box. Gassan Ahadme was on hand to run onto the knock down, before rifling his shot over the bar from close range.

The visitors struggled to muster any real threat toward the Covered End in the early stages of the encounter, receiving their first chance in the 21st minute. Sam Nombe latched onto a loose ball out wide, cutting in on his left foot and unleashing a strike goalbound, which was saved by Will Mannion.

On the half-hour mark, Thierry Small let fly from distance, curling a right-footed strike just wide of the far post.

Berry got himself in on the action shortly after as Lloyd Jones lofted a dangerous ball into the Millers’ box. Ahadme rose high, heading the ball back toward the edge of the box - under pressure from Hakeem Odoffin - and Berry struck his volleyed effort off target.

Steve Evans’ side took the lead on the cusp of the hour-mark as Liam Kelly struck a thunderous effort into the top corner from 25 yards.

Following Rotherham’s opener, Jones opted for a triple change as Allan Campbell, Chuks Aneke and Tyreece Campbell all entered the fray.

The two attacking substitutes combined as Aneke came close minutes later. Tyreece Campbell swung a looping cross towards the back-post, where Aneke climbed highest and he sent his headed effort out for a goal-kick.

It was a superb response from the Addicks as they drew level with 18 minutes remaining on the clock. The ball fell to debutant Allan Campbell and the Scotland international was able to turn, threading a pass to Aneke on the edge of the box who curled a sublime strike into the top corner to level the scoring.

With four minutes remaining of the initial 90, substitute Jordan Hugill flashed a shot wide of the post for the visitors.

Despite end-to-end action in the dying embers, neither side were able to net the all-important winner as  Aneke’s leveller rescued a point in SE7 for the Addicks.
