Ashley Maynard-Brewer spoke to CharltonTV following a competitive clash at The Valley as the Addicks secured a goalless draw against Reading on Saturday afternoon.
The shot-stopper kept his fourth clean sheet in his six previous outings, making a series of important saves and claims in the game.
“It was frustrating not to get a goal and win the game," said Maynard-Brewer. "I thought defensively we were so solid. We created lots of big chances, frustrating but it’s the end of a good holiday period for us, it puts us in good stead to move on.
“Their goalie made some good saves. As a goalkeeper it is nice to keep a clean sheet and like I said, it puts us in a good position to go forward.”
The 25-year-old shared his praise for his defensive counterparts, highlighting the impressive and consistent levels they have shown week in week out.
He said: “We’ve put in a lot of work to be more defensively solid, last season I believe it was only five clean sheets in 46 league games which is not a good return. Our back three have been so consistent, they have done a great job, it’s really good to see.
“From a defensive standpoint, it is about keeping calm and making clear decisions. We’ve done that a lot throughout the season, it is a good trait to have. I love the distribution side, it’s probably not my strongest point but I have done a lot of work with Stephen Henderson on it, trying to improve.”
Maynard-Brewer admitted that despite a solid result in SE7, there was disappointment amongst the dressing room, highlighting the level of performance the side showed today.
“The fact that everyone came in and was really disappointed with the draw says a lot about us and how we have gone about our business recently," he explained. "The next few weeks are critical, if we can keep up that momentum then we will climb up the table.”
