Chuks Aneke was thrilled to mark his return to the matchday squad with a goal to help Charlton seal a 4-2 triumph over Exeter City.
It took the Addicks forward just 105 seconds to get his name on the scoresheet - in what was his first appearance of the season following a calf injury - coolly poking home from close range six minutes from time to ensure a return to winning ways for Ben Garner's side.
“Obviously I’ve been out for a little while now and I’ve been itching to get back” Aneke told CharltonTV. “It’s just the best way to repay myself and repay the fans because I’ve been out for so long, so it was a good win and I’m happy to be on the scoresheet.
“Although we’ve been drawing games, we’ve had chances to win games and have been playing really good football so it’s good to get this win now and give the boys that confidence to keep turning those draws into wins”.
Asked if his return gives the dressing room a lift, the 29-year-old said:“I would like to think so. I feel like I can effect games when I play, whether I start or come on. I did my job and the team did their job, so we’re delighted and we'll now focus on winning the next game.”
