Michael Appleton returns to Lincoln City on Tuesday evening to go against a club he managed for three seasons.
The Addicks go in to the game unbeaten in Appleton’s first seven games as Head Coach.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference he said: “I’ll enjoy it - it’s always a bit difficult, I’ve got a few former clubs in this league. I can’t think too much about it. I had three enjoyable seasons there. The first one was interrupted with COVID and then we had a fantastic year in my second season due to a lot of good recruitment in terms of the loan market. It was a little bit more frustrating my final season, I felt we dominated a lot of games of football and didn’t score and we should have finished a lot higher up the league but we still developed a lot of players and created a lot of good teams while we were there throughout the three years.
“I’m hoping it’s a case where all the niceties are out of the way before the start of the game and as soon as the game starts it’s about picking up three points and making sure we can keep this momentum going.”
Lincoln sit 12th in League One, on the same amount of points as the Addicks.
Appleton added: “They are very difficult to beat and the XG suggests that’s the case. They are one of the sides that make it very, very difficult for you to score goals.
“They will be dangerous on the turnover, we’ll need to be mindful of that. There will be times where we’ll have quite a bit of the ball and be trying to break them down because they are well structured. It’s going to be a tough test, they don’t seem to score too many or concede either. A tough test but one that the lads are looking forward to.
“I think the lads are in a good place, the spirit is pretty good, as you can imagine, we’re looking forward to the game now.”
