In December 2020 Ardmore Construction set up a campaign as part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Together for Winter campaign, to tackle food hunger and food poverty for school age children over the Christmas holidays. The aim was to provide breakfast boxes for children and young people who may have otherwise had to go without.
Ardmore put a call out to ask for donations breakfast boxes or to donate to a JustGiving page. Subcontractors, staff and partner organisations all contributed.
The campaign was such a success that Ardmore Construction pulled together 92 food boxes, each one containing breakfast for two weeks, with healthy ingredients and easy-to-follow menus.
The campaign was taken to the heart of Ardmore’s sub-contractors, who smashed the target for donated items and also raised an amazing total of £10,550.
The funds are being used to provide food for children and young people at similar projects in school holidays. The Easter camp has just taken place, where children and young people were provided with breakfast and a cooked lunch while taking part in a range of fun activities designed to be educational and encourage physical activity.
Charlie Macdonald, CACT’s Director of Youth, Health and Inclusion, said:
“Coronavirus has had a huge impact on many families over the last year. We work with many children and young people who don’t have enough to eat, and who are struggling to keep up with their education. We’re incredibly grateful to Ardmore and all their subcontractors for running such a successful campaign and helping is in our work with Royal Greenwich to reach as many children and young people as possible.”
Councillor Matt Morrow, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We are extremely grateful to everybody who stepped up to help vulnerable families across Royal Greenwich during these extraordinarily challenging times.
“It is thanks to Ardmore and all their subcontractors, along with many other local businesses across our fantastic borough, that we were able to help hundreds of young people. Their hard work proved that Greenwich really did come Together for Winter.”
