Brian Kinsey receives Hall of Fame award

Keith Peacock presents Brian Kinsey with his Hall of Fame award at the Charlton Athletic Museum.

Charlton legend Brian Kinsey was presented with an award inducting him into the Hall of Fame on Friday.

Kinsey joins Ralph Allen and Matt Holland as the inductees for 2024, where they now sit alongside the likes of Sam Bartram, Clive Mendonca and Chris Powell.

The left-back, who played 377 league games for the Addicks during his 15 years at the club, was presented with the award at the Charlton Athletic Museum by former teammate and fellow Hall of Fame inductee, Keith Peacock.

Kinsey said: “I’m amazed. It’s a proud moment. Charlton has always been my love – I supported them as a kid, my son played for the reserves, my uncle Peter Etherton played for them in the war years. It just runs in the family.

“It’s great to be remembered, but it makes you feel very old!”

Of all the players his name now sits alongside, Kinsey selected prolific centre-forward Stuart Leary as the one he was most honoured to share the wall with.

“He was my son’s godfather, so he was always a favourite. We went and met him out in South Africa, we spent a lot of time with him and his future wife out there, and he came and visited us as well. He was a real gentleman, Stuart. When I was living at Shrapnel Road and working at sites, he used to pick me up some mornings in his car.”

Before the ceremony, Kinsey took some time to look around the museum and take in the history - much of which he was a part of himself.

“It’s unbelievable, really,” he said. “Time has gone so quickly – some of the things you remember as if it were only yesterday. It comes up and hits you suddenly and gives you a buzz!”
