Sean Clare says the Addicks are ready for this weekend's season-opener at Accrington Stanley.
Ben Garner's side completed their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a positive showing Championship side Swansea City at The Valley.
“Obviously it’s never good to lose and concede two goals at home, but in terms of the performance, the opportunities we had to score and implementing the gaffer’s new style - it’s all looking good," explained Clare. "There are things to learn from, for sure, but I think we have to be positive going into next week.
"I enjoyed being back out at The Valley. It was good to be back and it was nice to get the fans back there as well.
“We want to go out there and do well, not only for ourselves but for the fans that follow us everywhere," he added. "Last season we didn’t have a great season but they were still there in massive numbers considering. We really want to put smiles back on their faces as we did at times last season and just give them a team to cheer on.”
The Addicks have made six summer signings to bolster Garner's ranks - with each of the new recruits featuring during pre-season.
“The gaffer has brought in really good lads as well as really good players, so everyone has gelled in well," said the 25-year-old. "The core of the team was really tight anyway from last season. We had a few dark times last season and we had to stick together to get out of it.
"It’s a really good group that wants to work for each other, work for the fans and work for the gaffer. Everyone is on the same page and we’re ready to go.”
Looking ahead to this weekend's trip to the Wham Stadium, Clare said: “It will be a completely different game from [Saturday], but it doesn’t mean we should change. We have to just be ready for the battle.
"We know how Accy play. I was there on loan and I’ve played against them enough times to know that they are very direct, strong and a difficult team to play against. We have to be ready for that as well as imposing ourselves on the game and taking it to them.
“Every team that goes away to Accy struggles a bit - that’s why they generally do alright in the league," added the defender. "It’s a difficult place to go to but the teams that go there and do well cope with that battle first and then they impose themselves on the game. If we can work our style of play well we can come away with a positive result.”
