Charlton Athletic are pleased to confirm the signing of Dan Potts.
The experienced left-sided defender, who has tasted promotion from every EFL division, joins on a short-term deal until early January 2025 having featured for the Addicks during pre-season.
Nathan Jones is thrilled to reunite with Potts, who made 165 appearances under the gaffer at Luton Town. He said: “Dan is someone that has played for me before, has been promoted and knows what it takes every day to be at it to create this winning culture and winning environment.
“What we’ve done is try to create the environment and the collective to make us as strong as possible. To do that we need competition in every position and we need people that are going to drive the environment, people that know what it takes to win at all costs. Pottsy knows that and I’m delighted to have him.
“We know that he’ll add real value - one to the environment and two to the culture and also the squad. Then when he plays he’ll add real competition and something different to what we’ve got.”
Born in Barking, Potts began his career at West Ham United where he progressed through the academy ranks before being named Young Hammer of the Year in 2011/12.
Following loan spells at Colchester United and Portsmouth, the 30-year-old joined Luton in the summer of 2015 and would go on to feature 216 times as the Hatters climbed from Sky Bet League Two to the Premier League, with Potts converting what proved to be the winning spot-kick in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final.
Potts, who has also been capped by England at U18, U19 and U20 level, will wear Charlton’s number 15 shirt.
