George Dobson is relishing the prospect of making history when Charlton take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
The midfielder will lead the Addicks out at The Theatre of Dreams with a place in the competition’s final four at stake.
“It’s going to be a brilliant occasion,” said the skipper in his Monday press conference at Sparrows Lane. “It’s why you play football, for nights like these.
“Everyone at the club is just so excited and taking almost 9,500 is just an unbelievable following. We’re going to go out there and give it our best. It’s not going to be easy but if you can’t dream or believe, there is no point going.
“When you’re playing, we’re going to be going out there thinking: ‘This is our chance to make history, this is our chance to cause that major upset’.
“We’re going to give everything and hopefully it’s our lucky day.”
Dobson admitted he and his teammates were hoping to be pulled out alongside Manchester United in the quarter-final draw following the Addicks’ thrilling penalty shootout victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round.
“I have got about 30 tickets for tomorrow,” he said.
“I probably normally have three or four, so it shows the United draw,” joked Dobson.
“It’s going to be such a special evening with such a huge atmosphere – it’s an evening everyone wants to be a part of.”
