Dominant Charlton held by Stockport County

Tyreece Campbell battles for the ball

Charlton 1 Stockport County 1

A dominant Charlton were unable to find a late winner in a 1-1 draw with Stockport County at The Valley.

Subsitute Rarmani Edmonds-Green netted his first goal for the Addicks to level after Louie Barry’s opener but despite plenty of chances Nathan Jones' side couldn't find a winner.

After an even start to the game the visitors took the lead in the 12th minute through a highly-controversial penalty. The Addicks didn’t deal with a long ball forward and Nick Powell challenged for a ball with Will Mannion in the box. After a delay referee Tom Reeves pointed to the spot to the shock of the Covered End. Barry made no mistake with his powerful penalty, sending Mannion the wrong way.

Within five minutes Charlton created two good chances which could have seen them draw level. First Karoy Anderson fed Tyreece Campbell, who cut inside and forced a good, low save from Corey Addai.

The Stockport’s stopper second save was even better, reacting quickly to keep out Anderson’s header from a devilish Terry Taylor corner.

A fairly innocuous challenge resulted in a game-ending injury for the in-form Kayne Ramsay just before the break, with Edmonds-Green replacing the former Southampton man.

The Addicks final chance of the half fell to Tyreece Campbell, who danced inside from the left but saw his shot deflect just wide of the near post.

Charlton started the second half as they finished the first and after plenty of pressure levelled the score in the 66th minute. A clever, short corner routine saw the ball fall to Tyreece Campbell whose shot was well saved by Addai but into the path of Edmonds-Green who tapped into the empty net. The home side didn’t take long to celebrate, rushing back to the half-way line to chase a winner.

The chances for the Addicks continued, Miles Leaburn had a shot well blocked and Matty Godden headed wide from close range, as The Valley faithful roared on the home side.

Stockport’s Fraser Horsfall was sent-off with three minutes to go as Charlton chased the winner. His first booking was for blocking Mannion as the Addicks tried to launch a counter attack in the 59th minute while his second was for late tackle on Godden.

With time running out Kaheim Dixon came on for his Charlton debut. Alex Mitchell saw his header well-saved by the busy Addai and the resulting Luke Berry corner went through everyone and just past the post.

With three minutes in stoppage time left Dixon’s flick found Leaburn who dragged a shot just past the post and Berry’s late corner was kept out by Addai.

The Addicks are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Barnsley.
