Charlton Athletic and the Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust (CAST) are again teaming up to hold a collection in aid of Greenwich Foodbank before the game against Cambridge United on Saturday (3pm kick off BST).
The club held the Foodbank before Tuesday’s victory over Plymouth Argyle and the Foodbank van will be in the West Stand car park ready for donations from an hour before kick off.
Richard Wiseman of CAST said: “We’ve done the Christmas collection for the past four years, but we just felt we couldn’t wait until Christmas this year. We hope we will do another one at Christmas, but with the long school holidays and then the uprating of the energy cap coming up, we felt it was really important to hold one now to try and help see people through the autumn.
“We were very grateful to all the people who contributed on Tuesday and we are very much hoping with a larger crowd on Saturday we’ll be able to fill the van. Everybody is facing the cost of living crisis so it affects people who would normally be donating as well as people who need donations, so it’s not as easy as it has been in the past, but the Charlton supporters’ generosity, we’re relying on that.”
Wiseman and Greenwich Foodbank are also encouraging those that can’t make it to the game on Saturday but would like to make a donation in some way, to head over to their website and download their app, which gives a weekly update on things that are urgently needed.
You can find out more information at greenwich.foodbank.org.uk.
