Charlton Athletic are thrilled to announce the signing of defender Rebecca McKenna, who has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the club.
The 22-year-old, who can also operate in midfield, hails from Bangor and spent her youth career at Glentoran Football Club before making the move to Linfield. She had a successful four seasons with the Belfast-based team as part of the squad that won three straight Northern Irish Women’s Premiership titles.
The Northern Ireland international made the switch to fellow Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes in 2021, making 42 appearances across two seasons for the East Sussex outfit, playing in every game during the 2022/23 campaign.
McKenna is an accomplished international player who has been capped 21 times by Northern Ireland and represented her nation at the 2022 Women’s European Championships.
“As soon as I spoke to Karen, it just felt right,” said McKenna after officially becoming an Addick. “I’ve only been here a short space of time but I’ve loved every minute of it.”
“I’m going to give everything for the team and hopefully I can contribute.”
