Edwards: 'It's a really nice feeling to score!'

Josh Edwards spoke post-game to CharltonTV as the Addicks recorded their third win on the bounce with a 2-0 triumph against Bristol Rovers.

The wing-back netted his first goal in Charlton colours with a delightful right-footed strike on the edge of the box which snuck into the bottom corner against the Pirates.

"It’s a really nice feeling to score," he smiled. "It’s been a long time coming as I've had a couple of chances here and there. It’s weird that the one on my right went in, but I’ll take it!

"I took the touch inside and the ball sat up so nicely and I thought, ‘okay then, I’ll hit it!’ I believe it’s my first goal on my right foot in my career, and the first from outside the box as well!"

Tuesday's victory also saw Nathan Jones' side record their 12th clean sheet in Sky Bet League One this term.

"The importance of clean sheets was drilled into us really early on in pre-season, saying that we need to keep as many as possible this season. We went on a good run at the start of the season, and went away from it at one point, but I think we're now back to our defensive best, and we're keeping teams out. It’s been great to play in. Everyone has to put a shift in - long may it continue."

The win takes the Addicks to within a point of the coveted play-off places and the 24-year-old admitted that spirits are high in the dressing room.

"It’s a great feeling, the dressing room is buzzing," he explained. "When you get out on the training pitch having won games, nothing beats that feeling. The morale is great and we’re all loving it, so long may it continue. We have a tough away day at the weekend, but we'll recover and be ready to go.

"The support tonight was great. I think that 96th-minute winner the other day has definitely helped, I think that was one of my favourite goals that I've been a part of - it was brilliant! They came in their numbers again, on a Tuesday night which can be difficult, and we appreciate everyone that came out to watch."
