Forward Ella Rutherford has been named as the Proud Valiants Player Ambassador for the 2022/23 campaign ahead of Charton's home fixture with Bristol City on Sunday.
“I’m proud to be working with them. They play a great part in the community in what they do and I’m really looking forward to supporting and working for them for the rest of the season.”
The Proud Valiants are the official Fan Group of supporters of Charlton Athletic who identify themselves as members of the LGBTQI+ community and their friends.
This year, Rainbow Laces season kicks off between 19-31st October, with Rainbow Laces Day on the 26th of October.
“I think it’s massive for us as a team and a community to support that.”
“In the sport, it’s not been a thing so it’s great for us to put it out there and show everybody that we’re all one and there’s a place for everyone in football.”
The campaign is run by Stonewall UK each season, encouraging inclusivity for the LGBTQI+ community in football.
Ahead of Charlton's home fixture to Bristol City Women’s on Sunday, Rutherford shared her message to the fans:
“Come down to The Oakwood, it’s gonna be a really big game for us we’re gonna need the 12th player there so everyone get down, Up the Addicks!”
