Ellie Brazil signs for Charlton

Ellie Brazil at The Valley

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce that Ellie Brazil has signed a one-year contract with the club.

The 25-year-old has joined the club ahead of what is likely to be a very competitive 2024/25 season.

Brazil shared her reasons for becoming a red: "It's really exciting, it a really great time to be at the club. I think off the back of how close they were last year to promotion I think that our ambitions align with what we want from the season, i'm grateful to be here."

The 25-year-old continued: "I spoke to Karen and I knew of her from when she was at Spurs so I had heard a lot of praise about her as manager as well which entices you into the decision. As a club I know a lot of the girls and I know it's quite a young squad, but a young english international squad which is nice to be a part of. The club have the same ambitions as me and as a lifestyle it meant that I could stay and be really happy off the pitch as well which is a key part of my life."

The forward went on to speak about the squad and her aims on joining the club: "I had my first session today and prior to this I would have said I can help to drive the standards but I went in today and the standards are already driven. I am looking forward to having the experience of chasing for championships, i have always been in the mid to low table.

I know that games that might be perceived as not as competitive amongst the top five are the important ones and we need to get the points. Off the back of speaking to Karen that was a big thing, they lost a couple of games against those teams even though they beat all the teams in the top four home and away, so I think I can bring that little bit of consistency hopefully."

Brazil comes with years of experience from the WSL, having spent her last two years at Tottenham Hotspur which she joined from Brighton and Hove Albion where she played for four years.

On joining Charlton, she will be playing her first season in Barclays Women's Championship, the forward shared what she was looking forward to: "You look at the championship this year in comparison to six years ago, its completely different and what I love about it is right now there is so much youth talent in it.

It's going to be a fight, there has been a lot of recruitment and big names coming into it which also helps the England have two very competitive leagues. It also helps when a team gets promoted to transition as the league is just as competitive."
