Football Development Day held at Sparrows Lane

Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) hosted a Football Development Day for young people with disabilities at the Charlton Athletic Training Ground at Sparrows Lane in New Eltham last Saturday, February 18th.

The event was held in partnership with the London FA.

39 boys and girls aged 11-16 came to showcase their footballing talents and be supported in their ongoing development within the game.

Carl Krauhaus, Head of Disability and Mental Health at CACT said “We were delighted to host such a great event with the London FA.”

“For the young people Meeting and playing with coaches from the London FA means that these young people are being pointed in the most appropriate team for them and progress to national football pathways.”

One of the players attending was William Ling. After attending Charlton Athletic’s Ability Counts team he signed for Chelsea FC’s Cerebral Palsy team. He is a regular for England’s Cerebral Palsy U19s and has begun training with the first team too.

Speaking after the event, William said: "I thought the day was really good and I really enjoyed myself, it was good to see the kids having fun and being back where it all started for me. I look forward to attending more days in the future"
