Holden looks ahead to Derby test

Dean Holden says his players are relishing Saturday’s trip to Pride Park to take on Derby County.

The Addicks face a Rams side who currently sit fifth in League One following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against 10-man Lincoln. Prior to that result, Paul Warne’s side had won their last six home league games.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s test, Holden said: “Paul [Warne] has done a brilliant job since he has gone in there. I’ve known him for a long time and it’s great to see him in such a big job. He’s grabbed it with both hands and the run they’ve been on has been phenomenal. It just shows you what can be achieved when you get that feeling of everybody together - including the supporters.

“I was there a few weeks ago and it was a brilliant atmosphere. Some of our young players are really going to relish going to Pride Park and playing in a brilliant atmosphere. Our away fans will travel well, I’m certain of that, and they’ll get right behind the team. It’ll be a great game and it shows you how big this division is in terms of some of the clubs.

“It’s a game where we know what we are going to come up against. Any of Warney’s teams will be physically strong, play forward and test us physically. We know where their strengths are and they’ve a really good squad of players.

“We go into every game confident,” he added. “We’ve got a good group of players and if we turn up on the day and we’re bang at it then we’ll be a match for everyone.”

The Addicks will be seeking a fourth away league win on the spin in Derbyshire on Saturday following the midweek victory at Forest Green Rovers.

“I know our supporters will be looking forward to the game,” the boss said. “The last three results away from home have been really good considering what came before that.

“Everyone likes a good trip to an away game and our fans will be in good voice - no doubt about that. It’s important that we go there and really believe that we can get something from the game.”
