Dean Holden has revealed new signings Macauley Bonne and Todd Kane are set to be involved in his squad to face Barnsley on Saturday.
Former Addick Bonne has re-joined the club on a deal until the end of the season, while full-back Kane arrives on loan from Championship side Coventry City.
Asked if this weekend comes to soon for the duo, the manager said: “No, it doesn’t come too soon. Macauley’s only been away from QPR for a week or so. Todd’s obviously been training with Coventry and je played last week. We’ve assessed them in training [on Thursday], we’ll have a look at how they are [on Friday] and they come into the squad.”
The boss also provided an update on Joe Wollacott, who has been sidelined since November with a fractured finger.
“JoJo has had successful little surgery to remove the wire from his finger,” Holden revealed. “He’s got another X-ray next Thursday. Hopefully on the back of that he can step up his training, get his gloves back on and look to get back in and around training.”
Meanwhile, Chuks Aneke has resumed training at Sparrows Lane after suffering a setback ahead of the Addicks’ New Year’s Day clash at Portsmouth.
“Chuks trained with the team [on Thursday] for the first time since pulling out of the warm-up at Portsmouth,” said the manager. “That’s gone well which is a bonus and we’ll take it day-by-day.
“Chuks is as disappointed as everybody that he’s not been fit enough for us,” he added. “We need to make sure that when he comes back, he stays fit. For me, he needs at least a training week next week. I think previously he’s trained for one or two days and then he’s been thrown straight back into the squad.
“He needs to get some work into his legs and he needs to get through some intensive sessions next week. It’ll be the first week I’ve had where we’ve had a good training week with no midweek game as such. That’ll be the first week we can do some really physical work with certain players and Chuks will be one of them. We’ll see where we’re at this time next week.”
