Head Coach Karen Hills offered her thoughts shortly after an eventful 90 minutes at The Oakwood which witnessed the Addicks produce an impressive second-half comeback, after goals from Emily Simpkins and Melissa Johnson helped the home side earn a point against Blackburn Rovers.
Hills’ side found themselves going into the break 2-0 down courtesy of Blackburn Rovers’ Millie Chandarana and Saffron Jordan.
The Addicks started the second half strong and dominant with an early penalty scored by skipper Emily Simpkins, making this her third penalty converted this season. With chances for an equaliser building, it was looking like a strong second half performance for Charlton. The efforts was highly spoken about by Hills in her post-match interview stating:
“We told them in there, look, don’t panic. We know we’re a good side, we know that we’re good on the ball. We needed to be a little bit more patient, and we knew there’d be opportunities to get us back in the game”
The halftime talk and patience really paid off for The Addicks as Melissa Johnson scored the equalising goal in the 70th minute the final moments would see chances for both sides, but the points were shared between the two teams.
The Head Coach spoke of taking the learning from the Blackburn game into Lewes’ league meeting next Sunday: “we know we’re going to go to Lewes and it’s going to be a very tough game. But we’re going to go there and do everything we can to get the win."
“I think at the end of the day, you want to try and win every game, so I think there’s a lot to work on this week. A lot of positives to take from that second half."
Hills revealed there was no immediate update on Logan’s injury after full time who was forced off with a knock before the interval: “we’ll probably see down the line in the next couple of days how it is. I’m hoping she’ll be ok, and we wish her well.”
