Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) are pleased to announce the appointment of James Rodwell to the Board of Trustees.

The appointment of James Rodwell, who was named Managing Director of Charlton Athletic and Chairman of the Charlton Board following the takeover of the club by Global Football Partners in July 2023, further strengthens the bond between the football club and the Community Trust as they continue their commitment to work together closely.

Marilyn Toft, Chair of the Board for CACT, said: “I am delighted to welcome James to our Board of Trustees.

"We are proud of our status as the charitable arm of the football club, working together to achieve a 'one club' vision.  This is another step in the right direction.

"We are always looking to widen our expertise and skill base and James brings that unique blend of knowledge of the game with business acumen and a deep understanding of the challenges facing charitable organisations in the current climate.  His appointment will add experience to what is already a very strong Board of which I am honoured and privileged to lead."

James Rodwell is a former professional footballer who has served as CEO at several clubs including Notts County, Scunthorpe United, Sunderland and Hull City. He has also served on the main boards of both the EFL and the Football Association.

James Rodwell added: “I’m proud to be appointed to Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s Board of Trustees. The Trust is an organisation that is a real force for good in enhancing the everyday lives of so many people in the local community.

“When we came into the football club, in July, the club’s board looked to build a relationship with the Community Trust as part of our collective aim for Charlton to become the most cohesive and sustainable community-driven club in the UK competing at an elite level.

"My appointment to CACT’s Board of Trustees further reinforces the working relationship between the two organisations, which will be important in the growth of the club and the trust.”

James joins the CACT Board of Trustees which consists of Chair Marilyn Toft, Vice Chair Simon Charlick, Calum Coker, Martin Griffiths CBE, Tracy Herd, Ken Palmer, Paul Statham, Fiona Harris and Stuart Butler-Gallie.

Their knowledge and experience across communications, finance, fundraising, education, equity and diversity, safeguarding, health and inclusion has strengthened the Board in recent years to support CACT’s continued development for the benefit of all service users.
