Jones: 'It's going to be a wonderful occasion'

'

Nathan Jones is relishing Saturday's trip to Sky Bet League One leaders Birmingham City.

Charlton condemned the Blues, who are unbeaten in the league at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, to their first defeat of the season in the reverse fixture at The Valley courtesy of Matty Godden's second-half strike.

"We know these are a wonderful side," said the boss. "It's a difficult game, but we're in good form. It's a tough game, every game at this level is tough - it's just a different tough.

"We have to be ready for it and we have to be going into it as the best versions of ourselves. That's what we'll concentrate on.

"We're fully fit in terms of everything, which is a really pleasing place to be. Thierry [Small] has recovered - it wasn't a pleasant tackle and [Emmanuel Fernandez] was rightly punished, but it wasn't a malicious challenge. It was just that he overran the ball and it's one of those ones that can happen in football."

The Addicks will be backed by a sold out away crowd and Jones admitted he is expecting a fantastic atmosphere.

"St. Andrew's is a wonderful place, especially with the redevelopments which have made it even better," Jones explained. "It's a wonderful place to go and test yourself and play. I've been there on many occasions as a player, as a coach and as a Manager through tough times; there were tennis balls last time I was there.

"It's going to be a wonderful occasion. We're taking our proper football club to play against another proper football club so it should be a good day."
