Nathan Jones was pleased with his new-look side who began pre-season with a 6-1 win away at Dartford.
The Addicks have completed seven permanent signings already this summer - six of whom made their Charlton debuts in the victory.
However, with four of the goals coming from academy players, it was not just the new arrivals who impressed.
“We got everything we wanted apart from a clean sheet,” he said. “First half we scored some good goals, we had some real firepower and pace. And then second half we were very, very controlled. It was a real controlled performance. It was excellent. No injuries, a real good workout. You want to win the game, you want to score goals, and that’s what we did.
“It’s a working exercise. So everything we’ve done this week in terms of training, we wanted to see. And we did.”
Trialist striker Danny Hylton rounded off the scoring in the 85th minute, and the gaffer explained what his presence means for the rest of the forwards at the club.
“Danny Hylton has been possibly my best ever signing [at Luton],” he said. “We’ve got a lot of young strikers at the football club, and if they can have the application that Danny Hylton has, then they’ll go on to have fantastic careers.”
Despite scoring six goals, the Addicks still have two strikers to come back in Chuks Aneke and Miles Leaburn. The boss provided an update on their fitness.
“It’s a bit early for Chuks,” he explained. “It’s an ongoing process with Chuks, we’re going to need to try and get everything we can out of him, but we can’t take big risks with him. So when he does feel anything then we tend to not risk him. And Miles is doing really well with his recovery.”
