Jones: 'We have a big period coming up'

Nathan Jones wants to see a reaction from his side when they travel to Lincoln City on Saturday.

The Addicks head to the LNER Stadium on the back of a frustrating 2-1 defeat at home to Crawley Town in midweek.

“It was a disappointment and I fully understand the fans' reaction," said Jones. "We were well below with what we produced. We've debriefed, we've had a look and we're ready to go again. We're a bit inconsistent in the league, that's what we are.

"At the minute we're winning all the cup games; if we could swap them cup wins for ones in the league then we would be in a better position. We have to make sure that we're consistent across all the competitions. The other night we were well below that and we've spoken constructively about it. That's not how we play, that's not what I want from the team.

“We're so close to being a good side - you look at results and people lose by three and four, we don’t. If we lose a game, we lose it by the odd goal and in that we have big chances. There's a side there that is consistent in certain things, but consistently winning games is the important thing and that's what we're not doing in the league at the minute.

“It's a really strange league in terms of a consistent one," he added. "You don’t have to do a lot wrong to lose a game and you don’t have to do a lot different to win a game. It's that type of league - we lost a game at Exeter through a set play and had three massive chances to have won the game or got something. That's the thing, it's those little margins at the minute in this league."

Asked for the latest team news, Jones said: “We're in a far better position right now than we were last week. People have come back and people have got minutes, getting sharper and fresher. Other than the right-back area, we're covered in all areas.

"We're in a much better position. We have a big period coming up. We realise what we didn’t do the other night and realise what we did poorly, and we're ready to go now.”
