Jones: 'We relish the challenge'

Nathan Jones is expecting yet another tough test when Stockport County visit The Valley on Saturday.

The Hatters travel to the capital boasting the second-best away record in Sky Bet League One so far this season.

“There are no easy games, they’re all really, really different games and we relish the challenge. We know there are good sides in this league and we believe that we’re one of them, so we have to prove that.”

Daniel Kanu was forced off during the Addicks' 1-0 win over league leaders Birmingham City last time out, while Gassan Ahadme missed out through injury.

“We’ve still got a couple who are probably not available for the game in terms of it coming too quick," revealed the gaffer. "Daniel rolled his ankle so he won’t be available, but it will give someone else an opportunity.

“We have to be careful with Gassan as it was a blow to his body - not your typical footballing injury. We’ve just got to make sure that he’s right before we put him back in, whether that’s Saturday or further down the line is another thing. It’s touch and go with him.

“[Birmingham] was a real competitive game in lots of elements, but the international break gave us a time to recuperate, to work again and hopefully be ready for this game.”

The boss also gave his reaction to Monday night's Emirates FA Cup first round draw, which pitted the Addicks against Southend United, one of Jones' previous clubs during his playing days.

“I’ve always said I like cup competitions, and I love the romance of the cup," explained Jones. "This is a romantic tie against different opposition, who we obviously won’t face in the league this season.

“I know Kevin Maher, he’s a very good friend of mine," he added. "I played with Kev for two-and-a-half years at Southend and had really fond times. I enjoyed my time there so it’s a tie I’m looking forward to. I have no doubt that we’ll take a good amount of fans there.”
