Nathan Jones spoke to CharltonTV post-game as the Addicks secured a 2-1 triumph against high-flyers Wycombe Wanderers.

Miles Leaburn was at the double at The Valley, halting the Chairboys’ 19-game unbeaten run, with two sublime finishes.

Jones insisted that we had to be at our best in order to claim victory over the visitors, and that we were: “Wycombe are a really good side, a real dangerous one. I can’t remember the last time they lost, you’re going back to August or September in the league. Matt Bloomfield has done a great job there, so we knew we’d have to be on it.

“I thought we were magnificent from start to finish. We were versatile and adapted certain things, we had all the best chances, all of them. No disrespect to anyone but we could have had three or four today. It was a really good performance against a flying side, they are dangerous and have threats, I thought we were brilliant today.”

Leaburn added to his fruitful form with his two strikes, taking his count to six contributions in three outings. The gaffer voiced his praise for the 21-year-old, claiming that the best is yet to come for the youngster.

“Miles is in fine form," he explained. "He’s gathering momentum. He was out for 11 months so we were taking it day-by-day, he wants to learn. At times today he looked unplayable, especially when he had that anger about him. The quality he has, to reach his leg round for the volley and then the composure with that chip. It gave us that wonderful platform to win the game. He is absolutely nowhere near where he can be. When he realises what he is good at he can be anything he wants to be.”

It was a superb defensive performance from the Addicks, keeping the away side quiet for the majority of the game before the in-form Richard Kone netted a consolation in the 84th-minute. The Addicks have conceded just two goals in their last five game.

Jone said: “We are building a platform. When we keep clean sheets and don’t concede, you have to look at other teams who concede three or four and then maybe score two or three the next game. We don’t do that; we have a level of consistency in our defensive play. We are very good out of possession. That gives us the platform to then go on and win games. Sometimes we let ourselves down, but we learn from it.

“The crowd have a big part to play, when the atmosphere is like it was today and they get behind us, that helps the players to fill themselves with confidence. I’m so pleased, [Luke] Berry [who assisted Leaburn's second] has been contributing constantly, that is why we brought him here, our front two are a constant threat as well. I’m also delighted for Josh Edwards [who assisted Leaburn's first]; he has come through a tough spell. It’s his first season in English football, he has had to adjust, he was magnificent today.

“I am pleased for the whole group, even after they scored, we saw the game out really well, against the most dangerous side in the league in terms of scoring.”

“We have to go out and right our wrong against Crawley, we were poor on the night, and we can’t defend that performance, we owe that.”
