Jones: 'We're all really together'

Lloyd Jones says there is a real togetherness amongst the Charlton squad ahead of Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient.

The Addicks are currently level on points with the O's and have a game in hand.

“The dressing room's a great place to be at the moment," Jones explained. "We're all really together and in a good place with a big game coming up - a lot of them to be honest. Everyone's really together.

"We need to stay on this run that we're on and hopefully that will stand us in good stead to finish where we want to come the end of the season. That's what we've been working towards, keeping these clean sheets and getting the results. I think it's starting to come together now.

"Since the gaffer's come in, we've shown what we're capable of and we just need to keep climbing," he added. "He's a top manager and everyone's starting to see the results of him coming in now."

The centre-back penned a new deal back in January and he admitted Nathan Jones was influential in his decision to commit his future to the club.

"It was definitely a massive factor," the 29-year-old revealed. "I've got a good relationship with the manager and I’ve seen what he's done at other clubs and his track record speaks for itself at Luton. I’ve said it a few times, I think this club is a sleeping giant; it isn’t a League One club. I’d rather be at a big club with potential than somewhere that's a yo-yo club. With the manager, the staff and the group that we've got, I don’t think we'll be that.”

Jones took his goal tally to two with his strike on the road against Bolton Wanderers last month, having previously netted against Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the season.

"I set a target at the start of the season to get five goals," he said. "I actually think I should be on five goals; I need to score more and Gass [Ahadme] nicked one as well! Five was my target, and if you can do that and contribute as a defender then it's a good marker.

"We need to do more as a team to score more, especially with the size, power and delivery that we've got. Hopefully we can add to that element of our game."
