Charlton made it seven home wins in row with a 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic at The Valley and Nathan Jones felt his side could have won by more.
Matty Godden netted two first-half goals for the Addicks, who controlled the game, before Chris Sze pulled one back for the visitors with seven minutes remaining.
Speaking to CharltonTV, Jones said: “It was tighter than it should have been. I thought we were dominant for the majority of the game. They started quite well, they had probably two opportunities in the game, one they score from and one they put past the post but apart from that I thought we were excellent and controlled the game. We had enough chances and should have been out of sight just after half time – it was a glorious opportunity.
“Then we got a bit lethargic, they broke on us. We were out of sync, we weren’t professional – that was the only way they were going to score I thought on a counter attack.
“We’ve had to see it out, which we’ve done, it would have been a travesty if we’d drawn that game.”
Godden’s double takes his tally this season to 15 in all competitions and Jones was quick to praise his striker.
When asked for his views on Godden’s performance, Jones said: “Same as he’s been all season – outstanding. We’ve rested him for two games where we’ve brought in big Miles [Leaburn]. Miles has taken the hit on two tough away games and then we brought Matty back because we know what he gives us. I’m delighted for him, it’s a shame he couldn’t have got a hat-trick – I’d have brought him straight off if he had. He was superb – that’s what we brought Matty Godden he for – games like that, he’s been outstanding all season.”
