Charlton 1 Burton Albion 1
The Addicks conceded a stoppage-time equaliser on Saturday afternoon, drawing 1-1 with Burton Albion at The Valley.
Charlton had the better of the play in the early stages but it was the Brewers who had the first real chance of the game in the 16th minute. Joe Powell’s corner from the right was directed goalward by Sam Hughes, and the effort looked to have beat everyone until Ashley Maynard-Brewer got back to claw the ball off his line.
Three minutes later, Burton were made to rue the missed opportunity as the Addicks went one better from their set piece. After the lively Daniel Kanu was brought down by John Brayford, Scott Fraser’s free-kick went over the head of Chem Campbell and was collected by Michael Hector by the corner flag.
Hector wasted no time, sending in a wonderful cross which was met by his centre-back partner Lloyd Jones, rising above Beryly Lubala to score his first Charlton goal on his return from injury.
Fraser and Kanu then both went close from a free-kick and a 20-yard effort respectively.
Five minutes into the second period, a good interchange between Corey Blackett-Taylor and Tayo Edun culminated in Alfie May firing at goal, but the striker saw his shot blocked.
60 seconds later, Fraser won the ball back and allowed Tennai Watson to release Chem Campbell, who drove towards the box before seeing his shot deflected wide.
Unfortunately for Charlton, the visitors were able to snatch a point out of nowhere in injury-time. A free-kick from Powell caused chaos in the Addicks’ box, with Hughes flicking the ball on and Steve Seddon poking the ball through to Ryan Sweeney who converted.
