Leaburn strikes as Charlton beat Bromley

Miles Leaburn shoots at goal

Charlton 1 Bromley 0

Charlton made it three wins from three to top the Bristol Street Motors Southern Group C.

Miles Leaburn’s fourth goal in as many games was enough for the Addicks to beat Bromley 1-0 at The Valley.

After a stodgy first half, that will be best remembered for the bizarre sending off of Charlton Manager, Nathan Jones, the Addicks took control after the break and were more than good value for the win.

Jones handed a full Charlton debut to academy starlet Kai Enslin, who became the 1,001st player to represent the club since the Addicks became a league club in 1921.

The 19-year-old started well and saw his deflected shot at goal saved by Bromley stopper Sam Long.

At the other end Ashley Maynard-Brewer made a good save to tip George Penn’s long-range effort over the crossbar.

There was an extraordinary moment just before half time when Jones was shown red after referee Ben Atkinson adjudged that the Charlton Manager had been on the pitch when he touched the ball with his foot.

Leaburn replaced Terry Taylor at half time as the Addicks moved from a 3-4-2-1 to a 3-5-2 formation.

The introduction of Leaburn gave the visiting defence some additional headaches and he combined with Gassan Ahadme to fire over just after the hour mark - a warning shot for the visitors.

In the 70th minute Conor Coventry, captain for the day, fought for the ball in midfield and played a neat pass in to substitute Greg Docherty, who found Leaburn just outside the area. The striker took a touch before smashing home a deflected shot to give the Addicks the lead.

After the goal the chances came more regularly. Rarmani Edmonds-Green headed over from a delicious Ahadme cross and Enslin was then denied by Long after playing a smart one-two with Leaburn.

The Addicks held firm and Maynard-Brewer got down well to keep out a low shot on the counter attack from Levi Amantchi.

A Docherty free kick just before full-time that cleared the crossbar was to be the home side’s last chance, as the Addicks secured a comfortable win.
