Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) is working with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the British Heart Foundation to celebrate May Measurement Month, a global awareness campaign encouraging access to blood pressure screening.
Having high blood pressure increases your risk of heart attack and stroke. Knowing if you have it could be life-saving. Getting your blood pressure checked is quick and easy.
Most of those who have high blood pressure don’t know it. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a condition that can have significant health implications, but it doesn’t always have signs or symptoms. The only way to tell if you have high blood pressure is to get it checked.
What is blood pressure?
Blood pressure is the measurement of the force of the blood pumping around your body. Blood pressure is measured with two numbers, systolic and diastolic. Systolic is the measurement of the pressure of the blood being pumped out of the heart, or when it contracts. Diastolic is when your heart is relaxing in between beats.
Know your numbers
Even if you don’t think you have high blood pressure you should still get it checked. Knowing what your blood pressure is and what is normal and healthy for you is really important.
