MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Bristol City
Karen Hills’ side are looking to continue their winning run on Sunday afternoon in the second group fixture of the Continental Cup against top-of-the-table Bristol City.
The Addicks head into this weekend’s game with momentum on their side, after recording a 2-1 victory in the South London Derby victory against Crystal Palace.
Skipper Emily Simpkins netted her fifth penalty this season, and Melissa Johnson doubled the score not long before the interval. The win now means that Charlton has recorded back-to-back victories on the road, with their priorities now set for their return to The Oakwood.
The derby fixture also saw Rachel Newborough, Lauren Bruton and Emma Follis return to the squad after long injury spells.
The Addicks were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline in their opening Group D fixture against Lewes after a Paula Howells and Ellie Hack strike secured the win for the hosts at The Dripping Pan.
The Vixens are currently top of Group D after recording a 4-0 victory against Crystal Palace at the start of October.
Lauren Smith’s side has been equally as impressive in their league form as they currently sit second in the current Championship standings.
The last meeting between the two sides consisted of a 2-0 victory for Bristol City at The Oakwood at the end of October. Shania Hayles’ first-half goal and Ffion Morgan’s second-half decider, saw The Vixens claim all three points on October, 30th.
Karen Hills’ last victory against Smiths’ side was on a cold January at The Robins High-Performance Centre, where The Addicks bagged two goals against City on the road and claimed a clean sheet too.
