MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton vs Lewes

Match Preview - Lewes

It’s the Third Round Proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and Charlton Athletic are entering the competition with the hopes of replicating what their team did 20 years ago, winning the FA Cup with Charlton’s very own Karen Hills in the squad.

Charlton

This will be the Addicks first game of the 2024/25 competition and they will be hoping for a win after a run of unfortunate results in the league. Last season Charlton made an immediate impact in the competition beating Bournemouth 6-0 away from home in the third round, they continued this by beating Ipswich 4-1 on the road. Their run came to end when they drew Tottenham Hotspurs away and were knocked out by a frustrating 1-0 defeat.

The Opposition

Lewes have won two rounds in the competition so far to reach this stage. They started their run against Dulwich which they narrowly won after the game ended 1-1 leading to a penalty shootout which Lewes won 6-5. In the next round they beat AFC Sudbury 3-0 to find themselves in the third round.

Head-to-Head

Charlton and Lewes have a long history, both having long stints in the Championship before this season. Last season, Charlton won 1-0 at the dripping pan and drew with the Sussex side at home. In the last 10 years, the sides have played each other 20 times with the Addicks winning 12, Lewes winning five and the final three ending in a draw.
