The 2024/25 season is finally upon us, as the Addicks gear up for their first game away at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, August 10th (KO 5.30pm BST).
Nathan Jones’ new-look Charlton side boast seven new signings so far, and the gaffer believes his team are in a 'wonderful place' following a 2-0 win over Portsmouth in their final game of pre-season.
He has, however, warned his players to expect a tough challenge from Wigan, with the Welshman full of praise for Latics boss Shaun Maloney.
Jones revealed in his pre-match press conference that Matty Godden is carrying a slight knock going into the weekend, while fellow striker Miles Leaburn is getting closer to making his return from the hamstring injury he sustained last season.
The hosts will be without a number of players, with new signings Tyrese Francois, Silko Thomas and Michael Olakigbe joining Callum McManaman on the injury list.
The Latics finished in 12th place last season, despite being deducted eight points due to a breach of EFL regulations.
They come into the 2024/25 campaign with 10 new players, having claimed two wins from their six pre-season matches.
The sides have met 18 times over the years, with each team sitting on seven wins.
One of the remaining four draws came the last time the sides faced off, when Chuks Aneke’s late goal snatched a point for the Addicks in April this year.
Adam Herczeg will be the man in the middle on Saturday, and will be assisted by Bradley Hall, Connor Brown, while Richard Eley is the Fourth Official.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) are introducing a number of changes to match officiating this season, specifically around penalty kick encroachment and denials of obvious goal scoring opportunities. Further information can be found here.
The Addicks will be wearing their brand-new yellow away kit on Saturday for the very first time. The kit is available to purchase in the club shop or online here.
Tickets for this weekend's trip to the Brick Community Stadium are no longer on sale, but can be purchased on matchday (cash only). Sales and collections will be from windows 1-3 at Wigan's Ticket Office, which is located in the north west corner of the stadium.
