Charlton couldn’t quite manage the cupset we all hoped for today, as Chelsea secured their place in the fifth round with a 4-0 win.
It took 40 minutes for the Blues to break down the Charlton defence. The whole team worked tirelessly to keep the opposition away from the net while creating attacking opportunities through Brazil, Muya, and Barton, but they couldn’t find a breakthrough.
Although the defensive line was strong, a header from Ramirez broke the deadlock. Shortly after, in the 46th minute, Ramirez went down easily in the box, and the referee awarded a penalty to Chelsea, which was taken and scored by Guro Reiten.
Though the Addicks came out fighting, Chelsea scored early in the second half through half-time substitute Aggie Beaver-Jones.
Jess Gray continued her outstanding performance through the second half, making numerous incredible saves throughout the match.
The Blues scored their final goal in the 73rd minute, putting the game to bed.
Though the score line may seem harsh, the Addicks displayed unwavering dedication and resilience, which will be vital as they head into the second half of the season.
