Having played an integral role in the Addicks’ unbeaten month in November, 19-year-old forward, Tegan McGowan spoke ahead of Charlton’s upcoming Adobe Women’s FA Cup Third Round tie against Bournemouth.
The promising forward was on hand to net all-important goals in both the Barclays Women’s Championship 1-1 draw against Sunderland and more recently the winning strike against Birmingham City in the Continental Cup Group stage.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s cup clash McGowan claimed, “I’m really excited to get going again with the girls, we’ve been on a really good run and hope we can carry that on into the Adobe FA Cup.
“Morale is on a high right now, which is to be expected when the team is winning but what’s important is that we stay together and keep pushing each other in training which is what we’ve been doing!
McGowan put Hills’ side ahead at The Valley in additional time against Sunderland as she featured off the bench, scoring her inaugural goal for the Addicks in fine fashion. She faced almost an entire year on the sidelines after suffering an ACL injury against Crystal Palace in November 2022, making her long-awaited return against West Ham in October.
“The goals meant a lot to me as the goal against Sunderland was my first goal for the club. Also, It’s been tough for me to get minutes coming back from my ACL injury while the team is in form, so for me to be able to take my chances when I got them was really special.
“We respect the number of goals Bournemouth have scored this season, and it will be a test in a good stadium, probably in front of lots of fans. We want to get as far as we can and it will take us to turn up at every game because anything can happen in the FA Cup.”
Karen Hills' side will face Bournemouth in the third round of this season's Adobe Women's FA Cup at the Vitality stadium KO 1pm GMT.
