Academy starlet Alan Mwamba was excited to make his senior debut in Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Cambridge United in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
The 17-year-old replaced Terry Taylor with Charlton down to 10 men and helped the Addicks hold on to their 2-1 lead.
Speaking after the game, he said: "I feel like it was a great experience to be honest. The gaffer gave me a lot of responsibility as I came on with 10 men. I was a bit nervous, but I took it on the chin and I feel like I've done well.
"I was hoping to get on. I was grateful for this chance I was given.”
Mwamba joined the Addicks at U12 level and only heard about his men’s first-team call after the U21s' 5-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday afternoon.
"I heard [I was playing] literally after the Sheffield Wednesday game after a very good performance from the lads," the midfielder explained. "I had a bit of a sore leg, but I found out after then.
"It's a great responsibility [to represent Charlton at senior level]. It's a blessing to be honest to be on this pitch and be on a stage like this in front of fans as well. It's brilliant!
"I would say [my goal] is to maintain consistent performances and to get more appearances for the first-team.”
After the game U21s Lead Coach Chris Lock posted on X, 'Alan Mwamba, remember the name'. When asked about the post, Mwamba said: "Just shoutout to Chris to be honest, because he knows what I'm capable of and he probably put in a word for me to be here as well."
