Academy prospect Nathan Asiimwe has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The defender, who joined the Addicks at U9 level, has enjoyed an exceptional campaign with Charlton’s academy sides, winning the Professional Development League 2 - South title with the U18s and the 2023 London Senior Cup with the U21s.
In November 2022, Asiimwe made his senior bow in a Papa John’s Trophy tie at Plymouth Argyle and provided the assist for fellow academy graduate Karoy Anderson’s debut goal.
The 18-year-old then earned his league debut in the Addicks’ final-day clash at Cheltenham Town.
After signing his maiden professional deal, Asiimwe said: “I’m over the moon, literally, words can’t even describe it! It feels great, it’s been a long journey of ups and downs and I just feel relief and a great achievement. It makes me so happy to be part of such a big club and it’s like a family.
“I’m just trying to kick on now and hopefully I can establish myself in the first-team squad - that’s my main focus, my main aim."
Academy Director Steve Avory added: "Nathan's had a very progressive two years and he's proven in that period as a scholar that he can play in a centre-back role or as a right-back, which would seem to be the position that naturally suits him more.
“He's such a good athlete and I’m confident that he’d also thrive in a wing-back role. His pace, talent on the ball, willingness to attack and one-v-one defending are all things that he has worked very hard on this season.”
