Miles Leaburn praised the Charlton fans after scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.
The 18-year-old had only been on the pitch three minutes when he flicked a cross from Jes Rak-Sakyi into the bottom corner of the Fleetwood goal.
It was the striker’s fourth goal of the season and third in the league. Speaking to CharltonTV, he explained how the goal came about.
“I ran forward too quickly,” he said. “I have it in my locker to do a little flick, so I just thought ‘why not?’ and it ended up trickling in.
“It was a reaction. You do it out of instinct, it was lucky. Not luck, skill!”
Speaking of the travelling Addicks, he said: “It was nice to give the fans something. It was a frustrating first half but it was something to give them a lift.
“All credit to the fans making that long journey up here really shows that commitment. You need that, especially to give us that uplift in games and especially in that second half.”
After a difficult first half, Charlton controlled the second period, hitting the woodwork twice and creating two good chances in the final minutes of the game.
Leaburn said: “On the performance of the second half I thought we deserved a win. We had enough chances. Jes was unlucky, we might have had a penalty.
"In the second half the reaction was really good from the team. We didn’t do as well in the first half so we had to prove ourselves in the second half and we did that well.”
