Charlton and Gillingham last met in August 2022 in a Papa John's Trophy tie, with the Addicks winning 3-0 thanks to strikes from Aaron Henry and Miles Leaburn and a Lewis Walker own goal.
Neil Harris' men finished 17th in Sky Bet League Two last term and come into Tuesday's match on the back of a 2-0 loss at home to Millwall on Saturday.
