A comfortable 5-1 win over AFC Wimbledon enabled Charlton to progress to the fifth round of the Vitality FA Women’s Cup in Carshalton on Sunday.
Charlton made the perfect start to the game, taking just eight minutes to break the deadlock in Surrey. Skipper Emily Simpkins flicked a clever ball into the path of Freda Ayisi, who took a touch and slammed home into the far corner.
Just three minutes later the Addicks’ advantage was doubled when Keira Skeels headed a Beth Roe corner over Wimbledon keeper Faye Baker.
Mia Ross then curled an effort onto the roof of the net before the Dons had a couple of chances. Skeels did well at the other end to block an Ashlee Hincks short from six yards out before Ellie Dorey shot narrowly over from long range after pouncing on a defensive mistake.
As the hosts started to get more of a foothold in the clash, a fast counter attack from Charlton saw Addison feed Ayisi only to see her shot deflected wide. The resulting corner was initially cleared but only as far as Ross, who fed Addison to power home to make it three.
Hincks had another chance, while Baker saved well from Mel Johnson and Rutherford sent a snap-shot over before the interval.
The second half saw fewer chances, with Charlton starting on the front foot thanks to efforts from Simpkins and Addison and they were four up just before the hour mark when Bruton played a ball into Roe, who had stormed upfield and proceeded to fire into the corner.
The fifth goal game on 71 minutes when a Roe corner fell kindly in the six yard box for Mel Johnson to bag her first of the afternoon.
Wimbledon finished the game with their best spell and bagged a consolation goal when Hincks sent a shot from around the halfway line that caught Sian Rogersoff her line and went in.
