CHARLTON 1 SOUTHAMPTON 0

The Addicks returned to winning ways after Beth Roe's goal inside six minutes sealed the Addicks' victory in SE7.

A professional performance from Karen Hills’ side saw Charlton climb level on points with Birmingham City after a triumph at The Valley this afternoon.

It was the visitors who produced the first threat on goal attacking down the right flank within four minutes. The ball was sent into the box from out wide, eventually reaching Pharoah alone at the back post but she fired over the bar.

The Addicks responded fantastically opening their account just moments after, with Beth Roe capitalising on a lofted ball over the defence. The 23-year-old showed fantastic composure as she took it around the keeper and slotted it home into an empty net.

Moments after the restart the Saints received their chance to equalise, a Southampton midfielder pounced on a loose ball just metres into the Charlton half. Ella Pusey was played in on goal before Kiera Skeels put in a fine tackle to deny the forward and keep the Addicks ahead.

Southampton continued to push for their goal, this time a well-worked corner routine straight off the training ground saw a headed opportunity heading towards the goal before Elisha N’Dow produced a block on the edge of the six-yard box.

As the clock hit the half-hour mark, Hills’ side came close to extending their lead. This time a ball slipped through the Saint's defence in Melissa Johnson’s direction. The centre forward latched onto the pass and cut it back into the box past the full-back, rifling a low effort towards the near post, tipped behind for a corner.

Charlton had the ball in the back for the second time on the hour mark, Johnson timing her run just seconds late as it was overruled for offside.

The away side created a handful of chances, Lumsden drove into the Charlton half and sent her shot goalwards from 25 yards out before the Addicks keeper calmly collected.

Neither side was able to create any definitive chances until additional time, the saints were awarded a free kick in stoppage time, Katie Wilkinson stepped up for the visitors and curled her effort just over the bar.

In the dying embers of the game, the Charlton defence was called back into action as former-Addick Megan Wynne slipped in behind on the right flank. Sending a dangerous ball toward the back post before Beth Roe pulled out a vital header to deny Milly Mott, and the Addicks earned all three points.
